SAINT JOHN – The Saint John Police Force have confirmed the body of Genevieve Cormier, 19, has been discovered on a beach.
Officers were called just before 3 p.m., Saturday, to a beach near Anthony’s Cove Road on the city’s east side.
Cormier was last seen on September 29, near the Reversing Falls parking lot. Her friends and family, alongside police, searched extensively for her in the weeks following the teen’s disappearance. In October, local unions offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to Cormier’s return.
Her remains have been taken to the Saint John Regional Hospital for a medical review.
In a media release, the Saint John Police Force extended their condolences to the Cormier family.
Her family has asked the public for privacy.
A statement was released late Saturday night on a Facebook page, originally created to update the search for Cormier.
“It is, with deepest regrets, confirmed that Genevieve’s body was found at Anthony’s Cove earlier this afternoon,” it read.
“I wanted to thank everyone, on behalf of the entire family, for your amazing compassion and support. We also thank you for respecting our privacy during this difficult time.”
