FORT QU’APPELLE – Some farmers in southern Saskatchewan have been rolling over more than crops with their combines this fall.
RCMP say someone has been deliberately hiding metal cultivator shovels underneath swaths of grain in farm fields.
A farmer then drives by in his combine and unwittingly scoops up the metal, damaging the expensive harvesting machine.
Cpl. Tim Sartison says police are investigating at least four complaints from farmers in the North Qu’Appelle and Lipton areas, but expect to hear more.
Sartison says in some cases the damage to combines has been up to $40,000.
Police say they have no leads and are looking for tips from the public.
