SASKATOON – The number of people employed full-time in Saskatchewan hit a record in September, according to new figures released by Statistics Canada.
Full-time employment was 465,100 in September, the highest ever for that month and up 11,800 from a year ago.
Over 80 per cent of new jobs created in Saskatchewan in the past year were full-time positions compared to less than half nationally.
"The increase in full-time jobs is impressive as it provides working people with more stability and security which leads to a better quality of life," said Tim McMillan, energy and resources minister.
Also, there were 555,500 people working in Saskatchewan last month, the highest ever for September.
September employment in the province fell by 3,200 compared to August, according to StatsCan.
Despite this decline, employment grew by 3.1 per cent year-over-year, the second highest growth among the provinces.
Alberta and Saskatchewan were tied at 4.3 per cent for unemployment in September, well below the 6.9 per cent recorded nationally.
"Today's report is full of good news as Saskatchewan maintains the lowest unemployment rate in Canada for the ninth straight month," said McMillan.
Off-reserve Aboriginal employment was down from 14.6 per cent to 12 in the past year.
