SAINT JOHN – The family of missing Saint John teen, Genevieve Cormier, is expanding their search to rural areas.
“We just don’t where she is or what’s happened to her or anything,” her father, Jason Cormier, said.
He says they are asking hunters to keep an eye out for anything that could be helpful.
“They’re keeping an eye out because they go to areas where no one else would,’ he said.
Cormier says it’s not like his daughter to disappear without a trace.
“She’s always calling to say ‘Hey I’m at such and such a place’ or something like that,” he said.
Genevieve, 19, was last seen on September 29th at the parking lot near the Reversing Falls Restaurant.
Her good friend Shanae Webb says the disappearance is out of character for Genevieve.
“It’s not like her. It wouldn’t be like her even in 20 years. It’s just not her personality,” she said.
Police and volunteers have been canvassing neighbourhoods and searching areas around the city’s west end.
There have been some leads, but nothing concrete.
Family friend Amanda Hensey is one of many volunteers trying to find the missing teen.
“We’ve found the door to door has been very valuable — speaking with people sparking their memory,” she said.
“We’re telling people something small could be really significant, so we’re asking people to please contact police.”
Genevieve’s mother, Janine Noel Hawkins, says volunteers are vital to finding out what happened.
“It’s just such a mystery. There’s only so many resources the police have and with the people coming together, it’s incredible,” she said.
She says their support have inspired everyone to keep looking.
“The people messaging me every day – it’s just been overwhelming and I wanted to thank them for that,” she said.
The search will continue Monday in Saint John.
